  • Cyber-physical systems in construction

Wide integration of computing resources into physical processes resulted into evaluation of new concepts and evaluation of a concept of cyber-physical sysems in particular. The article reveals an approach of implementation of cyber-physical processes into construction field. Since the process of construction faces the problems, which were traditionally considered as poorly formalized, that leads to an accumulation and transfer of huge amounts of often heterogeneous in its structure and purpose of information. As a result of a detailed analysis of the prerequisites for the creation, structure and functions of cyber-physical systems, the authors establish that the solution of such problems is engaged in cyber-physical systems. The importance of the use of cyber-physical systems in the construction industry is due to its significant role in the economy of any country. The authors identify a number of areas of application of cyber-physical systems in construction, such as monitoring and control of various parameters and systems, logistics and many others. Further studies of the authors need the development of specific algorithms for the implementation of cyber-physical systems in solving these problems.

  • The use of structural membranes in the reconstruction of historic buildings

This article discusses the basic principles of the use of structural membranes in the reconstruction of buildings and structures. Three principles of intervention in the existing architecture are described in detail. The first is to preserve the historical appearance and character of the building. The second is the scale of the new and old parts of the building. The third is the difference and the possibility of reorganizing new designs. The characteristics of the goals, the achievement of which each of these principles is directed, are given. Using the example of several buildings, we analyzed the use of textile membranes to achieve the main goals of reconstruction, described the positive and negative aspects of restoration using textile membranes. These buildings include: a church on a hill in Corbera d'Ebr, Spain (roof restoration), the central courtyard of the Palacio de Mineria, Mexico (creating coverage over a yard area), Salzburg residence, Austria (sliding roof). In conclusion, conclusions were made about the advantages of using membranes for the preservation of historical heritage and possible prospects for the development of fields of application of this design.

  • Main methods used in the design of earthquake-resistant objects

The traditional approach to designing seismic resistant buildings is to provide the building with strength, rigidity and inelastic deformation capacity. modern methods of protection, in contrast, are not to strengthen the building, but in its ability to relax forces and stresses. There are three main methods used in the design of earthquake-resistant objects. 1. The use of seismic insulating basement. This system provides isolation only in the horizontal direction and is rigid or semi-rigid in the vertical direction. 2. The use of devices that dissipate the energy of an earthquake. In the building, seismic dampers are installed, which reduce the magnitude of vibrations, turning the kinetic energy of the vibrations into thermal energy. 3. Installation of active seismic resistance monitoring systems (active method). Such an active feedback control system contains three main elements: a. Sensors for measuring external excitation; b. Computer hardware and software; c. Drives to provide the necessary control forces. At present, the most popular is the hybrid method of semi-active control, which combines the advantages of a seismoisolating basement with passive shock absorbers, which is much more economical in comparison with the active method.
